GE appliances, including Hotpoint, General Electric, and Sears-Kenmore models, use the Interlock Switch Plunger, a critical replacement part for ensuring the dishwasher door latches correctly and the appliance starts operating. This component, made of white plastic, is about 2 inches long. It activates the door latch switch, which then informs the electronic control board that the door is securely closed. If the interlock plunger is damaged or absent, the door may not latch properly, which can prevent the dishwasher from operating.

When replacing the interlock plunger, it might also be necessary to replace the spring in the door latch assembly. This part fits onto the plunger spring within the escutcheon assembly and helps trigger the door latch switch. Always disconnect the dishwasher’s power before beginning any repairs to maintain safety.
