It serves to protect microwave ovens from fires and significant damage by shutting down the microwave if the magnetron overheats. If the thermostat detects an unsafe temperature, it will halt the microwave's operation. In such cases, the thermostat likely needs replacement. The microwave will not function until the thermostat is replaced.

To replace the thermostat, first, disconnect the microwave's power. Remove the trim kit with a screwdriver and then the microwave panels using a safety drill bit.
