The brake assembly is an OEM replacement part that controls the spinning and stopping of the washer's drum in a top-load washing machine. Located beneath the drum, it works with the transmission to manage the drum's movement. During the wash cycle, the brake assembly engages to slow and stop the drum’s rotation when the cycle ends or transitions between wash and spin cycles.
